Best of Category – Nostalgia Malbec 2020
At Nostalgia Wines, on the Black Sage Bench in Oliver, BC, we take pride in our winemaking and grape-growing. Owner/Winemaker Gina Fernandes Harfman also works with treasured growers to source grapes for Nostalgia Wines.
Once again, the prestigious All Canadian Wine Championships has recognized our commitment to quality. It is a celebration of the finest wines from across the country. We are thrilled to announce that several of our wines have been honoured with medals in the 2024 competition, including a Best of Category, Double Gold Medal for our 2020 Nostalgia Malbec.
Additionally, Rockabilly Red 2022 and Meritage Family Collection 2021 have each been awarded a bronze medal.
Tasting Notes
Nostalgia Malbec 2020 is a dark, bold Malbec with intense notes of blackberry jam, stewed prune, goji berries, and a delicate floral perfume. On the palate, this full-bodied wine offers ripe, firm tannins with generous black and red fruit, and cloves on the finish.
Try it with grilled chicken drumsticks with Hoisin BBQ sauce, Jerk pork belly, Dandan noodles, or aged cheddar.
The low yields and excellent fruit quality resulted in an exceptional 2020 vintage. The Malbec is sourced from the Gablemann’s, on a challenging, steep, terraced site North of Oliver. The extreme slope of this two-acre vineyard allows for full sun exposure and excellent ripening conditions.
Grapes are hand-picked, then hand-sorted before a very gentle pressing, eventually aging in oak barriques for 15 months. Varietal Composition: 97% Malbec (Gablemann Vineyard, Oliver), 3% Cabernet Sauvignon (Harfman Vineyard, Osoyoos).
