Platinum Medal – Malbec Petit Verdot
At Nostalgia Wines, nestled in the heart of the breathtaking Black Sage Bench in Oliver, BC, we have always strived to produce wines that embody the essence of this remarkable region.
The 2024 WineAlign National Wine Awards of Canada received 1,800 entries from 230 wineries located in 7 provinces. It took place June 21 – 25, 2024 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The ‘Nationals’ are Canada’s largest wine awards and Nostalgia Wines is thrilled to be amongst the winners.
Several of our wines have been honoured with medals in the 2024 competition, including a Platinum Medal for our 2020 Nostalgia Malbec Petit Verdot.
We also received three Gold Medals for our 2020 Family Collection Meritage, 2020 Merlot, and 2022 Rockabilly Red — all of these releases are coming soon.
Bringing home Silver Medals were the 2022 Chardonnay and 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon (release coming soon).
Additionally, The Girls Red 2022 and Family Collection Syrah 2021 have each been awarded a Bronze Medal.
Tasting Notes – 2020 Malbec Petit Verdot
The quality of the Gablemann’s well-established, terraced vineyard of Malbec in Oliver creates the base of this wine, and we upped the ante by blending dark and exotic Petit Verdot from the Harfman Vineyard in Osoyoos.
The resulting red blend is ready to add intrigue to your dining table with fresh cherry, red currants, kirsch, spice, and floral notes. Its full body and powdery tannins make it fun to pair with savoury dishes, such as Korean BBQ (try this beef Bulgogi recipe) or olive tapenade.
The low yields and excellent fruit quality resulted in an exceptional 2020 vintage. The Malbec is sourced from the Gablemann’s, on a challenging, steep, terraced site North of Oliver. The extreme slope of this two-acre vineyard allows for full sun exposure and excellent ripening conditions.
Grapes are hand-picked, then hand-sorted before a very gentle pressing, eventually aging in oak barriques for 15 months. Varietal Composition: 50% Malbec (Gablemann Vineyard, Oliver), 50% Petit Verdot (Harfman Vineyard, Osoyoos).
